AHS AFJROTC Drill Team earns trophies
AHS AFJROTC Drill Teams competed Saturday, October 23rd at West Montgomery High School against 20 other JROTC Drill Teams from around the state. Despite being one of the smallest and youngest teams present (only 17 cadets versus some teams with up to 60), the AHS teams brought home 4 trophies from the competition.
ARMED FLIGHT Team, led by Cadet Captain Tristan Gaines, brought home a second place trophy, as did the UNARMED ELEMENT Team, led by Major Danielle Nagle. The ARMED ELEMENT Team, led by Cadet Staff Sergeant Ryno Basson, won a third place trophy, and in the FEMALE INDIVIDUAL UNARMED event, Team Commander, Cadet Major Danielle Nagle won third place.
The entire team spent many long hours learning and practicing complicated drill sequences – all of which have to be performed from memory. Colonel Hall and Sergeant Davis are “extremely proud of the accomplishments of all our outstanding Drill Team members.”
The AHS AFJROTC Drill Team will compete next at Terry Sanford High School in Raleigh on November 20.
