AHS JROTC earn trophies at competition
On Saturday, October 22, the Asheboro High School Air Force Junior ROTC Cadet Drill Team and Color Guard competed in the annual Warrior Classic JROTC Drill Competition at West Montgomery High School.
This competition involved the Drill teams from approximately 25 high schools. The all day event featured individual, small group (elements), and large group (flights) competitions with and without weapons, and a Color Guard competition sequence.
“Although Asheboro High School has one of the smaller teams in terms of the number of cadets, there was nothing small about their dedication and hard work,” said Master Sergeant Ben Davis.
Asheboro High School cadets earned four trophies: Unarmed Flight, led by Cadet Lieutenant Austin Stanley, captured third place overall; Cadet Staff Sergeant Carlos Puerta beat out about 150 other cadets to take first place in the Armed Shoot-Out event, while Cadet Master Sergeant Sergio Mendez took third place in that same event; and Drill Team Commander, cadet Captain Denisha Hill captured 2nd place in the Unarmed Shoot-out and second place in the Armed Female Individual event.
The AHS cadets are currently preparing for the next competition on November 19th at Sanderson High School in Fayetteville.
