Beitzel wins Piedmont Wind Symphony Concerto Competition

Dave Beitzel, a junior trombone player at Asheboro High School, won first place in the Piedmont Wind Symphony 2011 Concerto Competition and will perform a trombone concerto with the symphony on Thursday, March 3rd.  The competition, now in its 10th year, provides an opportunity for outstanding high school musicians to compete for a $1,000 cash prize and the opportunity to perform a professional level concerto with an outstanding wind symphony.  Dave will present “Concertino” for trombone, by Ferdinand David, part of the standard repertoire for classical trombone.  The concert is at 7:30 pm on March 3rd at Brendle Recital Hall on the campus of Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem.  Tickets are available at the door.

Dave is the son of David and Chrisanta Beitzel and a private student of Dr. Randy Kohlenberg of UNCG and Mr. Justin Gerringer of Asheboro.  He is a frequent member of honor bands at the county, district and state level in both concert and jazz bands and is a member of the Asheboro High School Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band and Marching Band.
