On April 22, 2024, Dr. Aaron Woody received the news that he was selected as the Piedmont Triad Education Consortium (PTEC) Region 5 2024 Superintendent of the Year. PTEC is led by Executive Director, Lillie Cox and is a collection of the eighteen K-12 school districts in central North Carolina and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Woody has served as the superintendent of Asheboro City Schools since 2019. While in this role he has led ACS through major successful changes. He spearheaded the completion of the largest renovation in Asheboro City Schools history and led the development and delivery of a new strategic plan, funding, and practices that enhance the district. While focusing on academic achievement and growth, Dr. Woody and his team have pushed boundaries to better approach student engagement, parent involvement, community awareness, and partnerships. In the last 12 months, Woody and the ACS team, have been showcased in state-wide articles, media outlets, and government agencies lifting up the tremendous and exciting work that has been happening in Asheboro.

A few of these recognitions include the “True Trailblazer” award from the North Carolina Department of Instruction for their transformational approach to literacy instruction, Federal and State Grant awards to establish a new Innovation Center for ACS, a Spark Lab, and a new Parent Center (ACS Welcome Center) which serves as a lighthouse model for the other districts.

Furthermore, Dr. Woody and the ACS team received the largest single grant in the history of ACS with a low-wealth grant from the general assembly and the Randolph County Commissioners totaling 35 million dollars for capital improvement to renovate South Asheboro Middle School.

The district has expanded partnerships with the business community, philanthropic organizations, civic institutions, and the faith community. These achievements showcase just a few transformative things happening at ACS under Dr. Woody’s leadership.

“At Asheboro City Schools, our team is dedicated to providing the best possible education for our students. We work collaboratively, with a focus on student success. Our commitment to excellence drives everything we do, and we are proud to serve our students, families, and community with passion and integrity,” stated Dr. Aaron Woody. He also stated that none of this could have been possible without his team here at Asheboro City Schools.

Asheboro City Schools is proud of Dr. Woody for his achievements and extremely thankful for his leadership.
